Chris Newton

Newton is well acquainted with endurance sport. He is a regular Sportive rider and started out in multi-discipline by competing in Duathlons. He qualified for the GB Age Group team, representing the country at both World and European championships. From here, he decided to tack on the swim event, and in 2007, raced Ironman UK as his first ever triathlon.

A freak accident in the spring of 2008 saw him off the circuit, with a smashed hand and broken shoulder. Many wrote him off for the season, but in true determined fashion, Newton surprised everyone, (including his surgeon) with his speed of recovery and took part in Ironman Australia in December. Since then, the 35-year-old Graphic Designer has taken part in the UK Ironman 70.3, Ironman Florida and the New Forest Half in 2009, finishing in the top 10% on each occasion. His dedication to training sees him regularly commuting the 38 miles to Bath on his fixed wheel bike from his home-town of Salisbury — just to keep up the mileage. “Some say glutton for punishment – I say bring it on!”
